Device Management SaaS

Help commercial audio clients easily build, manage, and maintain their systems to reduce operational costs and boost reliability

At AtlasIED, a MiTek subsidiary under Berkshire Hathaway, I led product design for the 0–1 launch of the “Highlander” Platform — an all-in-one audio infrastructure management tool. AtlasIED powers 80% of U.S. airport sound systems, but relied on fragmented third-party software for device and site management.

Clients wanted a unified solution, and the company saw an opportunity to streamline operations and eventually scale the platform as a SaaS product. I collaborated with 3 PMs, a design manager, and a dev lead to define the product vision and deliver the first MVP.

Design Showcase

An All-in-One Audio Management Platform that serves multiple stakeholders

I designed an all-in-one SaaS platform that empowers commercial audio clients to control thier projects from three different levels - Project, site and device. Using Highlander, school administrators, consturctors will be able to map devices, monitor device health, schedule bells, upload media, and map speakers—replacing legacy tools with a unified, scalable solution.

Problem

Fragmented Tools, siloed experience, messy operation process.

MiTek’s existing ecosystem relied on a fragmented mix of third-party and internal tools for core functions like device mapping, bell scheduling, and diagnostics. This disjointed approach created operational inefficiencies, high configuration costs, and inconsistent user experiences across roles.

During my initial stakeholder interviews, I discovered that while administrators, project owners, and installers each had different responsibilities, they were all burdened by similar frustrations stemming from the lack of an integrated system. This fragmentation didn’t just impact user experience—it posed serious risks to system reliability, installation accuracy, and long-term scalability, making a unified, scalable platform not just a design challenge, but a pressing business imperative.

Approaches

Leading workshops, in-depth stakeholder interviews, and cross-functional collaboration

I began with another round of in-depth stakeholder research to understand how different roles navigated legacy audio systems in their real-world contexts. I authored the stakeholder interview scripts and conducted interviews across operations and sales to surface business needs, technical constraints, and edge-case scenarios. I had zero knowledge before going in to this role, I had to learn audio engineering 101 form start. Thanks to my product managers who helped me equipped these knowledge really fast.

To establish a solid design foundation, I mapped the existing information architecture for the current software that we use, defined key workflows, and redesigned the system-level IA to support modular, scalable navigation. I also led vision alignment workshops across product, design, and engineering teams—ensuring cross-functional clarity and long-term feasibility of the platform direction.

Solutions

Scalable Audio Control for Multi-Site, Multi-User Environments

Targeting these painpoints, I designed both SaaS and mobile solution for multi-sites management suitable for multi-users.

Multi-Level Site Management
Designed for school districts and large organizations, the platform enables users to manage audio systems at every level—from entire districts to individual schools, down to specific devices in each classroom.
👉 This solved administrators’ need for centralized oversight and gave project owners a scalable framework for managing multi-site deployments without duplicating effort.

Virtual Device Mapping
A floorplan-based interface allows users to visually place and manage devices by zone—reducing manual tracking errors and improving clarity around speaker coverage and deployment.
👉 This feature addressed installers’ challenges by providing an intuitive, visual blueprint for accurate and efficient on-site installation.

Integrated Device-level Functional Workflows
Scheduling, device monitoring, media uploads, and network settings now live in a single platform—eliminating tool-switching and costly third-party dependencies.
👉 This streamlined administrators' daily workflows and resolved the burden of switching between fragmented tools to complete essential tasks.

Impact

Visions aligned in teams and stakeholders, ready for scaled adoption with 100% task completion rate.

After presenting the product in HQ to all parties, I achieved 100% stakeholder alignment across sales, product, and customer success—platform was greenlit for implementation across all new school district clients. Pilot districts committed to replacing legacy systems upon release. Usability testing and user testing showed 2–3x faster task completion and increase in user satisfaction for scheduling and virtual device mapping compared to legacy tools
